Amina is sketching a seating plan on a scrap of paper at the hospital. It recalls a community lunch where every borrowed chair was different. One was so low that its occupant appeared to be sitting at the children’s table. Amina offered to swap. He refused, announced himself chairman of the small people, and persuaded three adults to join him. The room became easier after that. On her sketch, Amina stops trying to make the chairs identical and gives the smallest one a particularly grand backrest.
